Existing alongside my landscapes and interiors, these figures feel intrinsically connected to the worlds within my practice — as though they belong to the stories unfolding quietly inside them.

I often imagine each subject as someone creative or deeply expressive in their own way: the busker encountered in a foreign city, a meaningful conversation with a friend, or a familiar figure from childhood. They reflect the capacity we all have to inspire, influence, and leave lasting impressions on one another through seemingly ordinary moments of connection.

Through colour, texture, and expressive mark-making, I aim to capture not only a likeness, but a feeling — a sense of warmth, nostalgia, curiosity, or quiet resilience. Many of the works are named after songs or poems, allowing music and literature to become part of the emotional landscape of the piece. These particular works take their titles from lines within Arthur O’Shaughnessy’s 1873 poem Ode, a tribute to dreamers, artists, and those who shape the world through imagination, creativity, and human connection.

About the artist

Stephanie Perrins is a Perth-based artist working on Whadjuk Noongar land.
