Drawing became a way of grounding myself within this\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003edistance from home, bringing fragments of the landscapes I love back\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eto the self.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMy practice is grounded in being embedded within the landscapes it\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ereferences: walking, observing, and returning to the same\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eneighbourhood paths until small details begin to reveal themselves.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThrough this practice of slowing down, moments come into focus—morning\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003elight catching the edge of a turning form, deep contrasts of shadow\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eand backlighting, windows of light, and brief glimmers held within\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eeveryday scenes. I am drawn to the coexistence of native and\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eintroduced gardens, the seasonal shedding of bark from Wandoo trees,\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eand the wrought iron porches and gates that frame these spaces.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMoving between plein air painting within landscapes and\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003epost-production drawings, I trace the shared rhythms, textures, and\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003epatterns of light that connect places travelled further afield with\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethose encountered daily close to home.
