Acrylic and cold wax on wood

60 x 60 cm

About the artwork:

This collection is inspired by walks through Western Australia’s forests and bushland, including the ancient karri forests of Boranup. Rather than documenting a specific scene, these paintings are created from memory—capturing the wonder, energy and sense of renewal that come from time spent immersed in nature.

Working freely with acrylic paint, I build layers of colour using expressive and organic marks. I also scrape into and sand back the surface to reveal what lies beneath, allowing the painting to evolve. As the composition develops, I refine the relationships between shape, tone and texture until they feel resolved. Quiet passages of negative space balance more complex, energetic areas of visual texture. A final cold wax finish unifies the surface, softens its appearance and brings a welcoming glow to the work.

Like the landscapes that inspire them, these paintings continue to reveal themselves the longer you spend with them.
