About the artwork

This body of work was directly influenced by the ever-changing landscape of our bush block north of Geraldton. Created primarily en plein air, I am interested in the symbiotic relationship that unfolds when working alongside the outdoor elements. Often using sticks, leaves and uneven ground to relinquish control, each piece is unique according to the weather and time of day. Working intuitively, I favour feeling over representation until the painting gives me an honest experience of place and vitality.

By using fluid, organic mark-making, often disrupted by outdoor elements, Lauren is devoted to creating raw, honest paintings that embody her experience of place. Using tools and methods to relinquish control, she embraces her inherent spontaneity to enliven the surface and remain captivated in the present moment. Responding intuitively, as a dancer would to rhythm. Her paintings serve as a form of meditation, escaping life's monotonous responsibilities and re-grounding with visceral depictions of her surrounding environment.
