This is the first solo exhibition at Oxford Street Gallery, and Sandra's debut exhibition launching her career as a fine artist, after a successful career in publishing and illustration. Sandra has brought a sense of storytelling to canvas, resulting in a whimsical body of work that touches the heart.

About the exhibition:

Belonging is a body of work that explores connection, the meaning of home, and emotional sanctuary. Through intimate scenes the works celebrate the gentle power of human connection and the comfort found in small, shared moments.

Belonging asks: In what ways do we build meaningful connections when traditional structures feel unstable? How do small, everyday rituals — making tea, sitting on a couch, sharing silence — sustain us as powerful acts of unity? Presenting this body of work as a solo exhibition in 2026 is particularly important to me. It represents a significant milestone in my artistic practice, allowing for a deep and cohesive presentation of this new series at a pivotal moment in my journey. The exhibition balances emotional depth with beauty, and creates space for vulnerability while offering comfort, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences of connection and belonging.

About the artist:

"I am a French-Australian illustrator, author and emerging painter based in Perth, Western Australia. I hold a Master’s in Art (Illustration) and bring years of experience illustrating and publishing children’s picture books—including a Kate Greenaway Medal nomination—into my current practice. In my large-scale figurative paintings, I weave the delicate, searching lines of my sketchbooks with bold form, working primarily in acrylic, charcoal, and pencil. These works explore our universal search for belonging and the quiet contradictions we all navigate: the exhaustion of chasing external validation, and the subtle unease of feeling invisible or adrift in a crowded world. Often, we glimpse fragments of belonging in life’s smaller moments — the everyday anchors, the shared warmth, and the simple acts of presence. My paintings invite the viewer to sit gently with their own lost threads, falls, and rebirths, and to discover that while connection with others offers beautiful reflections of belonging, true belonging is something we ultimately forge from within."
