About the artwork:

Inner Landscapes 01–12 brings together twelve paintings exploring landscape as a vessel for memory, atmosphere and emotion. Each work draws from fragments of specific places, combining remembered and reimagined landscapes into compositions that exist somewhere between the familiar and imagined. Built through layered washes, gestural marks and erasure, the paintings move between structure and spontaneity, allowing forms and horizons to remain fluid and unresolved. Deep blues, greens and muted neutrals create a sense of stillness throughout the series, while traces of drawing and weathered surfaces suggest places altered by time and recollection. Together, the works form a patchwork of internal landscapes, inviting the viewer to pause and bring their own memories to the spaces within them.

About the artist:

Millie Gillespie is a contemporary painter based in Perth, Western Australia. Drawing on her background in fine art and architecture, her practice explores memory, materiality and place through abstract, atmospheric painting. Working through layered washes, erasure and gestural mark-making, Gillespie creates restrained compositions that balance structure with spontaneity and clarity with ambiguity. Blues, greens and muted neutrals recur throughout her work as landscapes of feeling rather than literal representations of place. Gillespie holds an MSc in Architecture from the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio,
Switzerland, and her work has been exhibited across solo and group exhibitions in
Western Australia.
