About the artwork:
Amanda Ogilby is a Margaret River artist known for her atmospheric and refined still life oil paintings.
This series of works continues her exploration of the properties of glass with the aim to capture not only pieces that are of visual beauty but also an increasing degree of realism. Glass’ ability to distort and warp its contents natural representation requires a deep concentration and careful observation of detail and form. It allows her mind to become completely absorbed.
Merging with this exhibition’s theme of a food and dining experience, she has depicted delicious fresh fruit and vegetables in glass, many of which were harvested from her own vegetable patch in Margaret River.
Food is a strong trigger for nurturing memories of family, cultural heritage, love and connection. Expressing herself in the genre of still life provides her with that same great sense of calm and comfort. Reminiscing on her personal connections with family and cooking, memories are often long buried in the blur of a busy life. Just as the food deep within the jars are often murky, as the jars fill and emerge, wonderful memories become clear, defined and abundant. Full of love.
