About the artwork

'This body of work is inspired by my painting trips to the Kimberley region of Western Australia, the Eastern Hills of Perth, and my coastal home town of Yanchep, Western Australia. I try to capture the location by either drawing on the spot or taking photographs as reference material to later use in the studio. I compose the artwork with charcoal or chalk on the canvas before painting with acrylic on cotton canvas. My aim is to share a special landscape with the viewer using my imagination to create an artwork that will resonate with others.'

About the artist

Genevieve Hartney is an award-winning Australian artist based in the northern suburbs of Western Australia, with a background in visual arts and interior design. Originally from Melbourne, she studied at Curtin University in Western Australia and the Sydney College of the Arts, majoring in Painting. Genevieve has been a finalist in the Mid-West Art Prize and the City of Rockingham Art Prize, and was highly commended in the Minnawarra Art Awards. She is represented in the City Art Collection after winning the acquisitive City of Wanneroo Community Art Award and was also the overall winner of the City of Joondalup Community Art Prize.

Working from her home studio, she develops a distinctive abstract landscape style using acrylic paint on stretched canvas. Living in close proximity to the west coast and Yanchep National Park provides abundant inspiration, and she records her observations through drawing and photography in the bushland before returning to the studio.
