'Silent Cacophony 3' by Bridget Seaton
Printmaking (Oil monotype collage)
48 x 48 cm framed
About the artwork
Bridget presents a view of the West Australian bush that embraces both its beauty and imperfection with themes of decay subtly coexisting alongside renewal. The prints series (Silent Cacophony) stems from mornings spent plein air painting at a local swamp pondering the riot of life hidden amongst ancient, scarred paperbark trees. The prints incorporate layers of hand printed papers presenting a montage of memories gleaned from observing, reflections, submerged and emerging tree forms, vigorous growth and silent decay. The series of acrylic paintings have arisen from numerous visits to the wheatbelt visiting fragments of open woodland country that once dominated this vast area.
Bridget has a particular reverence for this habitat that differs vastly from verdant England where she grew up. Ever fascinated by the colours of warm earth, soft greys and bonelike ancient tree limbs her paintings of this area are both a celebration of its beauty and a lamentation over what has been lost.
About the artist
Bridget Seaton completed a Fine Arts Degree in the UK in 1998 and moved to WA in 2010 to pursue her love of the Australian Bush. As a landscape artist viewing Australia through a migrant’s eyes, she is drawn to the wild places and frequently spends time in the bush walking and painting en plein air. This time spent outdoors directly feeds into her studio practice as an acrylic painter and printmaker.
Seaton exhibits regularly in both metropolitan and regional WA and has been selected for numerous art prizes. An active member of the Printmakers Association of WA, she won first prize for Printmaking in the Beverly Art Prize 2022. In addition to participating in collaborative exhibitions with artists collectives, she has held four solo shows and regularly participates in open studio events.
